Undoubtedly it is the most beautiful lake in North Sikkim but what makes it even more unique is its religious significance. This lake is worshipped by people from most of the religions in India including Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs. This lake is located at an altitude of 17,000 ft and it takes nearly about 3 hrs to reach here from Lachen. It is in close proximity to the Indo-Tibet border (just a few kilometres away from this lake). Gurudongmar Lake is also one of the major sources of the river Teesta that flows all across Sikkim and in West Bengal too. The lake remains frozen during the winter. Hence, the best time to visit Gurudongmar Lake is between March and June (though, I visited here at end of Nov 2021.
